Artist: Laura Mikula

'Original artwork - Giclee - Hand Embellished Giclees' (Retouched)

Laura Mikula considers herself a self-taught artist who is always learning, mostly through the process of practice, trial, and error. At the age of 12, she began painting using the Ben Franklin method of studying and attempting to copy the works of art masters. From this, she developed a working knowledge of colors, perspective, and composition. Known for her realistic style, she painted theater sets and murals for her high school. Laura obtained a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University, majoring in interior design. She continued to paint on consignment while raising her two children as a stay-at-home mom. After working in the residential design market in Pittsburgh for a few years, she started a successful faux finishing painting business specializing in large-scale murals, realistic marbling, and trompe l’oeil techniques. As a faux finish and free-lance fine artist, she has painted commissioned works for individuals and businesses, including notable clients such as West Virginia University, WPXI-TV station in Pittsburgh, the current owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins, multiple Pittsburgh Steelers players, and a mega-church in Cranberry/Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Laura’s style, subjects, and media are versatile. She works with oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolor, and more recently in textured relief painting, often with a water-related theme. The beauty of our natural world and its creatures are her common subjects. She frequently refers to her extensive library of art books and favorite You-Tube artists to improve her skills and knowledge.

Her work has often been featured in private, individual, and group showings and in various galleries where she has lived. Currently, she has works of art at the September Moon Gallery in Findley Lake, New York, and Beach Street Art Gallery on Marco Island, Florida.

Now a full-time Florida resident, Laura has lived in multiple states and traveled the country extensively and has been coming to Naples since childhood. She and her husband and her two children reside on Isle of Capri in Naples. She is a member of the Marco Center for the Arts.

Some of her works can be seen at and on her website where you can order prints and original works of art.
